Considering Blount Construction Company?
Think Twice - and then, Think again!

Consider the experience from the review before you hire Blount Construction Company for any work around your home.
Welcome to my blog to warn the public about the "work" Blount Construction does.  I realize I am just one person with one experience, and while there are people who have praised their work, there are many others who have had issues with them and to save you time, and to make your own conclusion, I will include many of these testimonials in this page and link to the original reviews.  This will allow you to do your own research and decide for yourself if using Blount is a good idea or not.
Like most business sites, Blount only shows their best work with testimonials that are approved by them on their own site.  Of course, why would any company actually have all reviews, including negative reviews, on their main site?  This is why knowing about the experiences of others can really help other consumers not make a mistake by selecting a subpar contractor for work around their home.  Look at the work, I mean, why wouldn't you consider hiring them for your job - the concrete patio looks incredible!    Below is a picture from their web site - and then some of the issues we have had with their "work"
Isn't that "controlled" picture something you would like around your pool?   Well, we did and we were so excited to have the work done - we didn't really think the $16k for the job was that bad, not for the work they "appear" to do.   Well, in real-life, the results are much different from the controlled, selected pictures they show on their site.  We had some stamped, stained concrete added last year later in the season and this is where our nightmare, which is still going on today after a year, comes into play.

Before we show their real work, let me start out with the initial history.  We had our new inground pool put in last year and before it was put in, we lined up concrete work to be done right after the pool was done being installed.  Jim from Blount came out and was very pleasant, taking the time to talk about what they offer and what we could expect from the completed work.  It all looked good, a bit expensive overall, but from the pictures of the work we saw, it was going to be worth it.

They came and did the job in a day - and from the start, we had issues.  They said all of the issues would work themselves out as the stain dried and everything settled - so we waited a few weeks.   Well they didn't get better, they got worse.   Look at the pictures of their actual, real work - the stain looks awful - its spotty and makes the entire job look cheap.
Blaunt Construction Patio Stain Issues
When I sent the pictures in to ask about the issue, they ignored my e-mail.   I called and left a message, mentioned the e-mail and I was hoping to speak to someone about what could be done - That was, of course, ignored.   I continued to reach out to them for 2 more weeks, mostly via e-mail, but another voice message that was also ignored.   After almost 3 weeks of being ignored, I sent a final e-mail asking for help, but by this time, I was bit upset with the entire ordeal and in my last e-mail I told them that I was going to create a website to explain the issues and work I experienced.  Well we got a call back quickly and their office manager, Chris, said he didn't see the previous e-mails or any voicemails (um, sure... missing 2 voicemails and 3-4 emails - but suddenly seeing one that could hurt business, they see that one).

They downplayed this entirely and wouldn't commit to anything.   It took abother 2-3 weeks for Jim to come out and look and even then, he made it sound like it was no big deal - but he did agree that they would re-stain the concrete the following year since it was so late in the season by this point.   (They did come back in the Spring, but only after I called and emailed over a two week period).

The new stain work is better, but still not perfect - but considering the work they did originally, the touch-up is a Picaso, so I'll live with it.
Lesson Learned and a warning for anyone still going to use them - Be prepared to be ignored after you pay them, and you may even be ignored before paying but after signing a contract - more on that issue in a bit.
But, the headaches don't end There!
So far, I have shown pictures of the stain on the main portion of the job.  Well, that was the easier issue - we have two other issues that we are still waiting to have resolved.   We had a smalled section poured for our waterfall on the left han side of the pool.  It was poured at the same time as the original work and once Spring 2024 came around and we started to open the pool, we discovered more of their excellent craftsmanship.   The picture below is the concrete that is only about 7 months old - it was flush against the pool in the fall, and in the Spring it sunk about 5-6 inches!
Just like when I had to track them down for the stain issue, this was no different.  Called and emailed for weeks and no replies until I was so fed-up, I e-mailed with the same idea that I would tell the world about the issues we had with the concrete work.  Well, they called back and again, someone came out to look at the issue.   This is where it gets really interesting - they refused to take blame for the work, instead, blaming the pool installed (Who is, by the way, a friend of the owner of Blount Construction).   How he could blame the pool installer was baffling, but he di deventually say that - and I quote, "He's a stand up guy and will re-pour the concrete".  While we do appreciate the repair, a standup guy wouldn't make his customer chase them for weeks and they would take accountability for the poor work they did.  So now we have the stain work that was horrible and the sinking waterfall.
I would love to say that's it, but, well, it's not....
You saw the sinking concrete - well, if you go across the pool to the other side and look at the edge of the concrete, you will see the only reason that side hasn't sunk in yet - its being held up, 100%, by the pool edging rather than any rocks or dirt under it.  All of the rocks and dirt settled and no the concrete slab is floating!!!   This will have issues down the road and at this point, Blount has refused to fix this side of the pool, blaming their friend, the pool installer, again!   Look at this section of the concrete.
Shame on us for this one - but we were giving Jim the benefit of the doubt - But now its been 3 months since we signed the contracts to add concrete around the rest of the pool and they refuse to schedule us for the job.  Why bother signing contracts when they wont do the work until they "feel like it"?

Since Jim was going to repair the waterfall section, we decided to go around the pool with concrete.  There were reasons that we didnt originally, but in the Spring we thought it would be a good idea.  So since Blount was going to repour the waterfall, we got a quote from then on June 19, 2024 for the rest of the concrete around the pool.  It is now September 4, 2024 and I would love to show you the pool and finished concrete, but I can't since they haven't come to do the job in almost 2 1/2 months.

We have called multiple times and are just told that "They don't have a date yet and will let us know when they can do it"

We are getting to end of the season and I seriously doubt they will get over here to pour the extra concrete or to finally repair the waterfall concrete!

          In Summary:
So what's the issue - why are we so upset that I would take to creating this type of blog?   Like I said, I want to warn peopple about the lack of customer service from Blount construction.  It's insane how poorly this company is in the customer service area.  Being September, here are the issues we have had for the last year and the issues I will have if they don't finally honor the contract we signed 2 1/2 months ago.

1.  Our Lawn still looks like garbage from the trucks and since they will be bringing in heavy trucks again, we havent been able to repair our lawn.  Our neighbors must wonder why we havent filled in the ripped up grass.
2.  The waterfall hasnt been able to be used all season due to the concrete issue.
3.  We cant finish around the pool - this inludes any landscaping and other work like running speaker wire for sounds around the pool / etc.
4.  We cant drill the ladder into the concrete yet, so its not safe for most people to use.
5.  We cannot get the concrete ready for our safety cover - and if they dont get here to finish the job, its going to be very difficult to close our pool for the winter (not that Blount cares...)

Forget time tables - they do jobs when and if they feel like it.  With all of the issues we have had, you would think that customer service 101 woould dictate that they make an effort to come out and resolve out issues - but basic customer service seems to be a foreign concept to Blount and the entire ownership and staff.

We are not alone with Blount Construction issues!
Don't just listen to our experience with Blount, listen to the other people who have issues with them - and seriously consider if the potential headaches you will have are worth the risk of hiring Blount Construction.  I would like to call out that I do know there are some good reviews, I won't deny that, but even a broken clock is right twice a day.   All I can do is explain the nightmare we have had, it's real - and my wife has also experienced how they deal with customers.   Jim was not happy with my e-mail where I said I would tell the world about the issues we have had - he was downright pissed and told her that "He didnt appreciate the e-mail".  Well, I would have to guess that if he paid $16k for a job and they ignored his communication for weeks that he would get a tad upset as well.
